Prom Dress Distress

Its the beginning of January, Christmas was a week or so ago and girls are already posting pictures of their prom dress. This is insane, prom isn't until May!

How do they even know that they will have a date? I do give major props to the girls who go solo, however if you're hoping to get asked and you are already posting pictures of your dress, just stop! You  seem WAY too focused on prom when we are in the middle of winter. What if you buy a dress, buy tickets for you and your date, and then he changes his mind a week before? What would you do then? I know some of you are thinking that because you have a boyfriend today, you'll be with your boyfriend for prom, but thats not always the case. Things change and you may end up taking a friend or riding up solo to prom, not saying thats a bad thing but some people decide last minute not to go, then what do they do with their 'perfect' dress? Try to sell it, wait until next prom, maybe, but if you are a senior and have horrible taste in dresses, you're stuck with it.

But can we please just talk for a moment about the dresses that people are planning to wear?
Are they really appropriate for a school event?
I'll list off some qualities of some dresses I have seen so far;
-Hole in the middle, exposing stomach
-Low scoop back that stops just above the butt
-Low scoop neck reaching belly button
-See through material on the ENTIRE dress
Do you really want to show your body off to the entire school, including faculty members?
Besides dresses being inappropriate, most of them are just plain ugly!

DO NOT BUY A DRESS IF IT IS ANY OF THESE CHARACTERISTICS;
Lime Green, Brown, Multi Color, Hearts, Glittery, Cheetah, Leopard, Tiger, (Really, just don't buy any animal print dresses), Electric Yellow, Feather Skirt, Ruffled Skirt, See Through Mesh, Distressed Rips, Bedazzled (ex: Super Fake Gems and Stuff, yuck), Metal ANYTHING, Duct Tape.
AND, if it is shorter than your shins, DONT WEAR IT! This is the one day besides Halloween and your wedding day where it is acceptable to dress like a princess and wear big puffy, gorgeous gowns! (Some High Low dresses are acceptable.)

Some examples of these Prom Dress Dont's:

Duct Tape is not a suitable material to make clothes out of.

She looks like a hippies failed attempt at tie dying a dress that was never meant to be dyed.

This is just an ugly dress.

 This looks like something a color blind three year old would wear.
You are not a bird!

An unnecessary resemblance to a jelly fish.

Hey jungle girl, put your fur back on!

I will say, I love to shop and look for prom dresses, but I wont start committing myself to a dress until prom is maybe a month or two away. So girls, slow down, you have five months to look for that 'perfect' dress, take your time and don't rush things.

  1. Wow. I laughed at pretty much all those dresses! I would hate to be seen with somone wearing something like that. You gotta wonder at the sense of fashion nowadays. It seems crazy people set the fashion only because they were allowed to so they could bring out something new and different. Sometimes, different mutates into strange and weird, and not in the good way.
