Acceptance from SUNY

I was sitting in my bed last night when I got the call. My mom had called me and after a long day, I had been sleeping and missed the call. When I awoke from my nap, I casually had checked my phone and realized I had a missed call, voicemail and two new text messages from my mom. It is never a good thing to see that. I thought that I was in trouble. What could I have done wrong? I was going through my mind as to what I could be in trouble for.

Immediately, I returned the call to my mom to ensure I was not in trouble. Hearing the sound of the ringback on my moms phone gave me indescribable nerves. I could only wonder what she had needed me so desperately for. Once she picked up the phone, my stomach sank. The first words that came out of her mouth were "It's about SUNY". This is the school that I dreamed about going to.

I was not sure on how to react to what she had said. The thought of not being accepted or the idea of them losing my application scared me. Then I heard it. The four words any senior looking to go to college want to hear. "You have been accepted".

My emotions ran wild. I was beyond excited to have been accepted. Later on in that week, I received the letter from the college. I immediately knew what the package was when it arrived at my house. It was a thick envelope that contained the actual acceptance letter and an instructional guide on what the next steps are.

In the fall of 2014, I am going to be a Fighting Tiger at SUNY Cobleskill.

SUNY Cobleskill

On the 26th of September I took the long drive up to Cobleskill, New York to visit my number one college choice. The State University of New York at Cobleskill. This is one of the best schools in the northeast and even the United States for a sports turf-grass management degree.

I have never seen a more beautiful college campus. The campus is set in the rural town of Cobleskill, New York. Massive farms surround the college. My first thought when I drove into the town was "I feel at home". I loved it. From the beginning of the college search process, it was known that I needed to go to a school and have that environment. There could not have been more than five thousand people in that town. On the main road leading into the campus, a Walmart sat by itself. On the other side of the road, there was a mom and pap grocery store. I can imagine myself taking the campus bus downtown to pick up somethings at the grocery store.

Life on the campus is a breeze. I was told over and over again that I can make all of the fun out of my campus life as I want to. My life for the next four years will be guided by me. I can participate in every extra curricular activity I have any interest in or I can sit  on my couch and watch cartoons. The opportunities for activities and clubs on campus are endless. The funds are unlimited and the friendships made will be lifelong.

The field of study I want to pursue is Sports Turf grass Management. As a result of this being such a small and specialized field of study, not many schools offer good opportunities. This leads to a very small window of opportunity to find my "perfect school".

The curriculum is going to be a rigorous, but important one. It will teach me the proper techniques on maintaining a grass turf field. Book knowledge is very important to have in this field of work. It is more important to have the field experience. You can learn much more about taking proper care of a baseball field by actually doing it. Sitting in the classroom only will teach you so much. The way that the system is set at SUNY is that the programs will make sure to get plenty of outside experience. It is required to have a semester long internship. This must be set up and approved by the school. It counts as a majority of your credits. Also, a self guided project will be completed. Much like our senior project. It will be in my field of choice and I can do it on whatever I want.

The opportunities that this school offers each student are endless. With the small campus setting and the surrounding area it is easy for each student to become close with the community, other students and professors. I know this is what I want. SUNY Cobleskill is my number one school.

Patriots vs Jets

On Thursday, the New England Patriots will be facing off against the New York Jets. The Patriots are led by quarterback Tom Brady, who had a very rough outing against Buffalo last sunday. He completed five out of his fourteen passes for two hundred and fifty six passing yards with one touchdown and one interception.

sses. With the loss of Wes Welker, free agent, Rob Gronkowski, surgery, and Aaron Hernandez, released, Tom Brady no longer has any of his big targets to be throwing to. The Jets are led by quarterback Geno Smith, a rookie from West Virginia. Geno went twenty four for thirty eight. As a rookie these are very impressive numbers, but this will not be enough to beat the Patriots and their veteran defense.

The Patriots are coming off a close game with Buffalo. The Patriots are working on rebuilding their offense to the prestige that they had last season. New England is held down by their veterans on the other side of the ball. The defense of New England is led by veteran linebacker Jerod Mayo. He will share his game experience with the younger players. Leadership will need to be passed from the veterans on both sides of the ball to some of the newer additions to the team. The New York Jets are not a team to be looked over.

The New York Jets stunned the very good Tampa Bay Buccaneers with a game winning field goal in the final two seconds of the game. Rookie sensation Geno Smith is leading this New York team into a place fans could only dream of. A place of confidence against their conference rivals, The New England Patriots. He adds a whole new dimension to their offense. The ability to run. New England has to game plan for an efficient quarterback in the pocket, but also a quarterback who can step out of the pocket and make a play happen. The Jets lost several key players on defense to injury and other reasons.

With the loss of essential players to the Jets’ defense, Tom Brady and the New England Patriots have the advantage over the Jets with their aerial attack.

Lee Brice- Hard to Love

Lee Brice debuted his first album, "Love Like Crazy", in 2010. His second album, "Hard to Love", came out in 2012. The newest album that has come from the golden lips of Lee Brice, has won countless awards.

As a new and aspiring artist in the country music world, it is hard to breakthrough and get your name known. "Hard to Love" is Lee Brice's second album. He broke into the country music world with his first album "Love Like Crazy". Many of his songs from this album made it into the top ten for country songs. The song "I Drive Your Truck" is a journey through coping with a man who lost his brother fighting for the military. The emotion that Lee puts into his music is what sets him apart from any other artist. In many cases, Lee Brice includes stories from his younger years. He uses his ability to relate to other listeners as an advantage on bringing in more listeners. This album features a very unique style of music. There is a rock tone in the background, but the main style is a harder version of country. With his own style of music it makes him his own artist. Lee Brice has been able to establish himself into the country music world. He appeals to country music and also modern rock fans.
