Fantasy High School Hockey

You can't walk down the hallways at any school on a Monday without hearing the phrase, "my fantasy team..." followed by a positive or negative emotion from the Sunday Football game that preceded that day. As a hockey player I participate in a fantasy NHL hockey league with a few friends. As a Bedford hockey player we are used to doing amazing things on the ice, and we decided to try something new off the ice.

We decided to create a NH High School Hockey Fantasy League, where 5 kids on my team would draft 6 forwards, 3 defensemen, and a goaltender in both Division 1 and 2. The website, www.nhhshockey.com keeps stats for all three divisions and at the end of the year our team adds up the points from the individual players to crown a champion. We base the points off like this: A Goal equals 3 points, and Assist is 2 and each individual penalty minute is .25 points.

The reason we are doing this is because we wanted to keep track of the league we are in in order to decide how we will play against certain teams. We know who the leading point scorers are so when we are on the ice against them we will know who to watch out for. Also the friendly competition between us will give us an edge on the ice, for all 5 of us have ourselves on our own team which means we will be competing to our best level in order to get more points. Of course we aren't going to be selfish hockey players, for our main goal is to win a state championship and we can only do that if we play together as a team and throw aside individual skill.

We can go online, see how our team is doing and talk hockey for hours amongst our team. It's one thing to talk about the Bruins game last night but to discuss what is going on in a league we are in brings us closer together and is a terrific way for us to become closer as a team.
