Drivers License!

It was a warm day in August and the start of a new school year was near. My dad took the day off to take me to the DMV. I was shortly going to be a new a licensed driver in the family or at least I thought. I felt pretty pretty confident with the material that I had to know for the tests. I went to the Manchester DMV because some of my friends said it was pretty easy there. I took their advice--not knowing what exactly to expect. It was about 8:30 am and the DMV had just opened.

When I got there, there was already a good size line. I got my papers examined and had been scheduled to take the written part of the test first. While I was waiting, the entire network went down; I had to wait almost an hour before they were back up. A woman had called my name and it was now my turn. I was very anxious. I couldn’t fail this test or I would have to wait ten more days to try it again. I started taking the test, it was on a computer and I had to answer about thirty questions. I could only get eight questions wrong or I would fail if anymore. I was zooming through them with ease, getting one or two wrong here and there. I came upon a question that I wasn’t exactly familiar with. You were allowed to skip one or two questions but it would just be reused again. Almost done with the exam, I had one question left with exactly eight questions wrong. If I got this next one wrong, I would fail. I clicked the next button to the last question and-- what do you know, it was the one I had skipped. I immediately froze with fear.

My hand shaking like crazy while trying to hold the mouse, I eliminated the answers that didn’t make sense and made my best guess. “Congratulations, you have passed”. “Yes!”  I screamed in my mind. I was so excited I couldn’t keep from smiling when I exited the room. All I had now was the driving portion. This part I did not worry about. The instructor was very nice and she only made me drive around the block. When we came back to the DMV, she jotted some notes down and told me i passed with a 95%. My eyes lit up with joy as I got out of the car and went back inside. I got my picture taken and the lady gave me a temporary licensed while my real one would come in the mail later on. I felt like a little kid walking into a candy store. I’ve never been so happy before in my entire life. From this day on, I knew I was becoming a man.
